Sustainable Development

Sustainable development is generally defined as ‘development that does not adversely affect the environment for future generations’. Naturally, all development affects the environment, however this is now causing global changes to climate that could challenge our ability to survive

The building industry is responsible for 50% of the CO2 pollution generated in the UK. If we are to address the issue of global warming, then sustainable design is a requirement in every building project and architects have a major role to play in this.
Our practice has significant experience of environmentally sustainable architecture:

  • Technology related to building systems controls, energy conservation and renewable energy plant.
  • Biomass heating systems, which use forestry waste products and wood chips for fuel.
  • District heating, wind turbines, solar panels and rainwater recycling systems.
  • Consideration of planning layout, landscaping and careful specification of materials with regard to their environmental impact.

One of our defining principles is to demonstrate that buildings can work with the environment to produce functional architecture that has the ability to challenge and delight
