Matt trained at the Bartlett School of Architecture, and worked at Conran&Partners from 1987 to 2010, for nine years as a Director. In his time with C&P he gained wide-ranging experience in complex urban development involving residential, retail and hotel uses.
His experience in residential design is very wide ranging, from dense high-rise city-centre developments of one and two-bed flats to a small apartment building in a Conservation Area in Porthleven, Cornwall. He has worked with clients in both the private and RSL sectors. Smaller-scale residential projects include Hus22 which he led while at C&P, before joining Lucas Hickman Smith and the Wood House in Wymondham
Matt has a broad knowledge of ‘modern methods of construction’, sustainable design and urbanism and has written numerous articles on historical and contemporary residential design. He has lectured on the subject for Design for Homes and Architecture Week. Matt is a member of the Greater Norwich Partnership Design Review Panel and writes about contemporary rural design on his blog Ruralise.
